BREAKING: “Jonathan And Kwankwaso Join Forces Ahead Of 2027 Election”

A political advocacy group, Goodluck Nigeria, has unveiled plans to form a “mega opposition alliance” aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The proposed coalition is expected to bring together former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in what the group says could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general election.
The announcement was made by Emma Umerah, convener of Goodluck Nigeria, who stated that the group is mobilising nationwide support for the alliance. According to Umerah, the coalition is structured as a broad political movement to rally Nigerians seeking alternative leadership.
“In the interest of national progress and democratic development, we are working to build a strong coalition capable of delivering the kind of leadership Nigerians desire,” Umerah said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the initiative will focus on grassroots mobilisation while engaging key political stakeholders, civil society groups, and youth organisations. Umerah also revealed that consultations are already underway and that pledges of support and funding have been received from individuals and political actors sympathetic to the group’s goals.
“We believe this alliance is the key to bringing about positive change and development in Nigeria. Our team is working tirelessly to ensure that Nigerians have a credible and viable alternative in the 2027 presidential election,” he said.
The announcement has sparked intense discussion among political analysts and party supporters. While neither Jonathan nor Kwankwaso has formally confirmed participation, both remain influential figures with substantial support bases across the country.
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, while Kwankwaso, a former defence minister and two-term governor of Kano State, continues to be a major political figure in Northern Nigeria.
President Tinubu, who took office in May 2023, is widely expected to seek re-election in 2027. Analysts say political alignments, negotiations, and coalition-building among opposition forces are likely to intensify as the election approaches.
For now, Goodluck Nigeria’s initiative represents one of the earliest efforts by a political advocacy group to influence the conversation around potential alliances for the 2027 race. Public and political reactions are expected to grow in the coming weeks.
