Finally, Jonathan Will Contest 2027 Presidential Election
The speculation surrounding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s political future was put to rest over the weekend as a top Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Professor Jerry Gana, emphatically stated that Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the party’s platform.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the PDP State Congress in Minna, the former Minister of Information confirmed that Jonathan had “opened up” to party leaders about his ambition and that the PDP was ready to rally behind his return.
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years and now another has ruled for two years,” Prof. Gana noted. “Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.”
He then made a direct confirmation, stating, “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate and you will vote for him to return as President again.”
Addressing concerns about the party’s internal wrangling, the top PDP chieftain expressed confidence in the party’s democratic foundation and grassroots strength. He affirmed that the PDP has a “tremendous opportunity in 2027” because it is a true grassroots party, noting that the founding fathers have addressed lingering issues to ensure the party can present a united front reflective of the people’s will.
