Nigerian Man Stones Childhood Friend To Death Over Money
A 34-year-old man has reportedly stoned his friend, Augustine Otti to death before robbing him of the sum of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) at Gyawana in the Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria.
It was learnt that the suspect, Inuwa Yunana, subdued the deceased by hitting his head with a big object and throwing him into a gutter. Thereafter, Yunana stoned his friend till he was sure he was dead.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Command’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. The police spokesperson said the suspect was apprehended following the recovery of material evidence at the scene of the crime which was linked to him.
The statement reads in part, “The Adamawa State Police Command on 15/5/2023, apprehended a 34-year-old man for stoning to death his close friend, one Augustine Otti and robbing him of the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000).
“The suspect, Inuwa Yunana, a resident of Gyawana, Lamurde Local Government Area subdued the deceased, Augustine Otti by hitting him with a strong object on the head and throwing him into a gutter.
“In addition to that, he stoned the deceased until he was sure he had died before taking away from him the sum of N100,000 cash.
“The suspect brutally killed the deceased on the 18/4/2023 at about 8:00 pm while accompanying him to go and complete payment of rice he bought at Mbemum village.
“The suspect was apprehended following the recovery of material evidence at the scene of the crime which is linked to him.
“Interestingly, the suspect voluntarily made a confessional statement, adding that he was only interested in taking possession of the deceased’s money.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola, while expressing disappointment over the unfortunate incident, commended operatives of the Command for detecting, arresting and making it impossible for the suspect to escape justice.
“Meanwhile, as part of the command’s effort in tackling criminal activities and other related offences in the state, the CP has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID to investigate beyond and ensure the law takes its course.”
“He equally calls on the citizens to always report people of suspicious character around their neighbourhoods to the police,” the statement added.
