Jubilation As Grace Efiong Osung Foundation Empowers Dreams, Distributes Cheques To Beneficiaries
The Chancellor, Dr. Monday E. Dickson in company with members of the scholarship committee of Grace Efiong Osung Foundation made a presentation of one hundred thousand naira (100,000.00) cheques each to eleven (11) beneficiaries during the Oro Students Union Summit held yesterday 28th July 2023 at Oron Civic Centre Complex, Oron, Akwa Ibom State.
The founder of the foundation, Engr. Elvis Osung, who was represented by his father, Chief Barr. Dr Efiong William Osung extended warm congratulations to the beneficiaries who were selected based on their merit. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the educational opportunity to the fullest, urging the recipients to excel in their studies and make a positive impact in their respective fields. His encouraging words resonated with everyone present, inspiring other students attending the event to take their academics seriously and become productive members of society.
In his speech, Dr Osung also expressed his deep appreciation to the scholarship committee for their diligent work in selecting deserving candidates. He recommended that the Foundation’s future scholarships be expanded to encompass other professional courses, acknowledging the importance of supporting students pursuing various career paths.
Thrilled by the trust and confidence bestowed upon the committee, Dr Dickson, expressed heartfelt gratitude and acknowledged that the process of selecting the beneficiaries was arduous and based on merit.
Furthermore, Dr Dickson, the immediate-past Dean of Students Affairs, at Akwa Ibom State University described the late Grace Efiong Osung as a passionate mother who loved education. He added that the scholarship scheme is a testament to the Grace Osung Foundation’s dedication to empowering and supporting young talents in their academic pursuits. He assured everyone that the committee will extend the award to students pursuing other professional fields in the next phase. The Foundation thanked a UK-based Engineer, Okwong U. Okwong (Das) for supporting the scholarship scheme by sponsoring the award for one student.
The Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko LGA, His Royal Majesty, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, in his goodwill message, thanked the Foundation for the initiative and congratulated the beneficiaries for a well-deserved award.
The beneficiaries drawn from the five (5) LGAs of Okobo, Oron, Mbo, Urue Offong Oruko and Udung Uko are undergraduates in various fields of Engineering/Geology and institutions.
High point of the event was the presentation of cheques to the scholarship beneficiaries, including: Akan, David Iniobong, a studeng of Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Uyo; Okon, Victory Edet of the Department of Civil Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University; Uyah, Edet Emmanuel from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Uyo; and Ene, Emmanuel Okon, from the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Uyo.
Others were: Akaiso, Isaac Okon, Department of Chemical Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University; Iyanam Uduak, Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Uyo; Essang, Nyong Asuquo, Department of Civil Engineering Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Akanu Ibiam; and Attah, David Babatunde, Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Uyo.
Still in the list were: Bassey, Bright Peter, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Uyo; Umoh, Emmanuel Effiong, Department of Geology Engineering and Ime-Obong Ekeng Etim of the Department of Civil Engineering, Cross River State University of Technology.
The event had in attendance the President of Oron Union, Bishop Etim Ante, who was represented by Mr Ini Essang, Chief (Engr.) Nseobong Essang, Dr. (Mrs) Arit Etim, Dr Asukwo Uya, Comrade John Bassey, Mr Prince Edenseting, Comrade Ezekiel Ibok, Bishop Edemumoh, Edidiong Nyong and many others.
