Real Reason Nigerians Denied Access At AFCON Final
Many Nigerian supporters were denied access to the Alassane Ouattara Stadium for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Final between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire over alleged fake tickets.
Some of the affected Nigerians claimed that they bought the tickets online while some bought theirs through fake agents.
Itobi Emmanuel, a Nigerian who resides in Abidjan, said he bought his ticket online for 25,000 CFA (N50,000) but he was shocked when he was denied access to the stadium.
“The FIFA online sale has closed but I saw people selling through online market and I bought it for 25, 000CFA. But when I got to the stadium I was told it was fake tickets and I was denied access to the stadium,” Emmanuel told NationSports.
Speaking in the same vein, Wisdom Lucky Ufot and Simon Ekpolo, said they bought their tickets through a third-part agent who sold fake tickets to them. They bought 15 tickets at the rate of 20,000CFA (40,000) each.
“We bought 15 tickets with hope of coming here to support the Super Eagles but we were told at the gate that the tickets sold to us were fakes. This is a very disappointing situation because there is nobody to rectify this situation for us. We complained to some officials but nothing was done,” Ekpolo said.
