AFRICOM Chief Reaffirms U.S. Support for Nigerian-Led Security Solutions

Nigeria and the United States have further strengthened their security partnership following a two-day visit to Abuja by the Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin Anderson, from February 8 to 9.
During the visit, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received Gen Anderson, alongside key Nigerian security chiefs, including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd.); Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; and other senior government and military officials.
Discussions focused on shared security interests and the enduring partnership between Nigeria and the United States in countering terrorist organisations that threaten Nigeria, the United States, the wider region, and global security.
Both sides also deliberated on enhanced military training, future force development, real-world training opportunities, and joint exercises, as well as other specialised capabilities the United States can provide in support of Nigeria’s security architecture.
As part of the visit, Gen Anderson toured the joint U.S.–Nigeria intelligence fusion cell, which plays a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The fusion cell supports real-time operational outcomes while building long-term, sustainable capacity for Nigerian security forces.
The AFRICOM commander interacted with senior Nigerian security officials and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Nigerian-led security solutions, emphasizing continued support through intelligence sharing and technical advisory assistance aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s independent operational capabilities.
If you want, I can also shorten this for a press statement, tighten it for online news, or adapt it for defence or diplomatic briefings.
