2027: APC Group Urges Tinubu To Reshuffle Cabinet, Demands Sack Of ‘Sabotaging’ Ministers

A prominent support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently reshuffle his cabinet, warning that alleged acts of sabotage by some ministers could endanger the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

The group, APC League of Democrats, made the call in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Babajide Oyewole, and Secretary, Chief Rowland Okonkwo. According to the group, a cabinet rejig has become long overdue and should include the outright removal of ministers perceived to be working against the objectives of the Tinubu administration.
The APC group urged the President not to delay what it described as an “urgent task,” stressing that further hesitation could inflict more damage on the government and negatively affect the party’s electoral prospects in 2027.

“We are seasoned politicians and can read between the lines when appointees are working anticlockwise to sabotage the good intentions and programmes of the very government they claim to represent,” the statement said. “We have seen this scenario before. It happened during the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Some of us raised the alarm early enough, but nothing was done.”
The group specifically called for the immediate removal of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, accusing them of undermining presidential directives.

While commending what it described as the performance of some ministers, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, the group said most members of the cabinet should be reshuffled to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

“The two ministers controlling finance, Wale Edun and Doris Uzoka-Anite, must be relieved of their duties as a matter of urgency, in the best interest of our great party and national peace,” the statement added.

The APC League of Democrats cited the unresolved dispute between the Federal Government and indigenous contractors as a key reason for its demand, alleging that the finance ministers had failed to implement President Tinubu’s directive to clear outstanding payments totaling about ₦4 trillion owed to local contractors since 2024.
According to the group, the contractors’ protests—marked by repeated blockades of the Federal Ministry of Finance complex—have damaged Nigeria’s image and discouraged potential investors.

“A protest anywhere against the government is capable of damaging its image and demarketing it before the international community,” the group said, adding that no investor would be willing to invest in an economy perceived as stagnant.

The statement also referenced reports that hundreds of young lawyers and several civil society organisations had joined the protests, accusing Dr. Uzoka-Anite of selective payments to cronies and allies—an allegation the group called for immediate investigation.
Beyond the contractors’ plight, the APC group warned that the economy was suffering from reduced cash circulation, worsening hardship across the country. It further cautioned that continued public discontent could translate into electoral consequences for the APC in 2027.

“We will not allow acts of sabotage to rewrite the history of 2015 in the coming elections,” the group said. “The President must rise to these patriotic calls and do the needful before it is too late.”
The Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria has been staging sustained protests at the Federal Ministry of Finance for over two weeks, demanding payment for projects already executed and commissioned under the 2024 budget. Despite interventions from the National Assembly and directives from President Tinubu, the contractors insist that payments have not been made, accusing the finance ministry of deliberate delays and selective disbursements.
