Tinubu, APC Spokesman Under Fire For Blaming Opposition Parties For Protests
Nigerians including supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on X (formerly Twitter) have berated the President Bola Tinubu-led government over the inflation and hardship in the country.
The commentators also lambasted the APC for accusing opposition political parties of instigating mass protests to undermine the government.
The APC in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had accused opposition political parties in the country of being desperate to portray its administration as underperforming by resorting to instigating Nigerian youths to protest in the streets of some major cities across the country.
The ruling party had alleged that the protest in Minna, Niger State and Kano, Kano State on Monday over high cost of living was orchestrated by opposition political parties to present threat to public peace and national security.
However, reacting to the statement, an X user, @mamatii001 said that the ruling party was the one giving the opposition political parties the chance with no power supply in the country, while a bag of rice is sold at N76,000 in a country where minimum wage for its workers is N30,000.
The APC supporter wrote, “Baba I am core APC. Don’t let us give them a chance by APC actions. No light, a bag of rice is N76,000 where we have N30,000 as minimum wage.
“Let’s tell ourselves the bitter truth. You guys should think of something positive please.
“Let’s be truthful to ourselves jare. You are blaming the opposition. Are you doing it well or do we vote for Tinubu to suffer?”
Another X user, @David_Kwambe said, “I agree, we all support the ruling party but allow people to protest. Governance is all about checks and balances.”
Also, @Anjellynah said, “The point is not whether protests should be allowed without checks. It is that in the face of obvious hardships, the Tinubu administration is gas lighting the people by saying such protests are instigated by the opposition not the very obvious sufferings.”
Another APC supporter, @Sumasun1 said that “We supported the ascension of this government sincerely for a better life, it is disheartening to see things going this way and yet some government appointees are living in denial. People are really suffering wallai.”
@RealQueenBee__ said that “When you spend 90% of the time that you would have used for governance on propaganda, chaos and protests become inevitable.”
Recalling President Tinubu’s post on X on September 9, 2014 that the “festering Boko Haram attacks on the North East and massacre of innocent citizens is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government,” @RealQueenBee__ said, “By the way, are you aware that Nigeria currently has no government or president quoting Ashuwaju himself.”
For @IAMacedtoo, “The time and money spent on propaganda, can otherwise be used to solve low hanging fruits, but then again, a thief will always be a thief, their psyche is quite different from others.”
Another X user, @IamThatNaijaGuy said that “This is what happened in Senegal today. What is coming to Nigeria will be 100x more massive.
“The good thing is that no amount of propaganda from you and your gangs can stop what is coming. Hunger and poverty is gradually uniting all Nigerians.”
Also, @IamEriOluwa said that “This is absurd, unrealistic and self-deception. Let’s assume for a moment it’s true.
“Are you expecting the opposition party to roll out a drum of support for your government? And as a matter of fact. It’s not true. And you know it. Besides, your party has organised protests against the government more than any other political parties in Nigeria.
“If anyone is responsible for this protest. It’s you. Yes! You are in Government. Take responsibility and appeal to the people. Then sit up and address their concerns. God bless Nigeria.”

Best comment so far. The time and money spent on propaganda, can otherwise be use to solve low hanging fruits, but then again, a thief will always be a thief, their psyche is quite different from others.

It would be better that the issues that led to the protest are addressed rather than focusing on who instigated them.
If the issues are addressed, the instigators wouldn't see any loopholes to use in justifying their instigation.
