As part of sustained efforts to enhance inter-corps collaboration and strengthen operational readiness, the Commander Corps of Nigerian Army Engineers (CCE), Major General Shamsudeen Shafaru, has conducted an operational and familiarisation visit to the Headquarters of 8 Division, Nigerian Army.
The visit, which took place at the Division’s Conference Room, saw the CCE engage with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna. The engagement was aimed at assessing ongoing engineering operations, reinforcing professional synergy, and enhancing overall operational effectiveness within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
During the visit, Major General Shafaru held detailed discussions with the GOC and senior officers on critical operational activities, engineering support to ongoing missions, and infrastructural development across formations and units under the Division.
In his address, the CCE explained that the visit was focused on evaluating the deployment, welfare, and operational readiness of engineer personnel within the Division. He emphasized the pivotal role of the Corps of Engineers in providing combat engineering support, infrastructure maintenance, and enhancing troop mobility and survivability in both peace and operational environments.
Major General Shafaru commended the GOC for his exemplary leadership and praised 8 Division’s achievements, particularly the effective and strategic utilisation of engineering resources in support of operational tasks. He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to addressing operational challenges through capacity building, timely interventions, specialized training, and the provision of essential equipment.
In his response, Major General Bemgba Koughna expressed appreciation for the CCE’s visit, describing it as a timely and significant step toward strengthening cooperation between the Corps of Engineers and 8 Division. He highlighted the importance of ongoing operations, infrastructural demands, and the indispensable contributions of engineer units to mission success. The GOC further reiterated the Division’s commitment to the optimal use and maintenance of engineering assets in pursuit of its operational objectives.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, an exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
