COAS Reaffirms Army’s Commitment to Enduring Peace on Plateau
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and security on the Plateau and across the country.
Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, at the Government House, Jos. The visit formed part of his operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in the state.
The COAS commended the Plateau State Government for its consistent support to the Nigerian Army, particularly the Armoured Corps, describing Plateau State as a strategic partner and the proud home of the Armoured Corps.
He acknowledged that the security challenges facing the Plateau are complex but emphasised that they are surmountable through sustained collaboration, effective intelligence sharing and the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and ensure the protection of lives and property. With all hands on deck, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable,” Lieutenant General Shaibu assured.
In his response, Governor Mutfwang congratulated the COAS on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and wished him a successful and impactful tenure.
The governor praised the sacrifices, professionalism and gallantry of Nigerian Army personnel nationwide, noting that despite being stretched by multiple deployments across the country, the Army has continued to rise to the occasion. He particularly commended troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE for their proactive efforts, which ensured peaceful 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed the Plateau State Government’s commitment to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic military operations and called for sustained collaboration to address residual security challenges in parts of the state.
As part of the visit, the COAS also paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, where he reiterated the Army’s determination to ensure that peace is fully restored and sustained on the Plateau.
In his remarks, the Gbong Gwom Jos appreciated the COAS for the visit and pledged the continued support of traditional institutions in educating the youth and communities to consolidate and build on the peace achieved so far.
The visit underscored the importance of sustained civil–military collaboration among the Nigerian Army, state governments and traditional institutions as a critical pillar for advancing peace, stability and enduring national security.
