BREAKING: 28 Suspects Arrested Over Benue Killings
The inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has announced the arrest of 28 suspects linked to the deadly attack in Yelewata LGA of Benue state.
On June 13, gunmen attacked Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma LGA of Benue, killing over 200 people, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and farmers.
In a stakeholdersā meeting held after the attacks, President Bola Tinubu criticised Egbetokun over the āfailureā of the police to apprehend perpetrators of the attacks in the state.
The president said he expected the police to have made some arrests after the attack in Yelewata.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the Egbetokun said police are still pursuing other suspects involved in the massacre.
He reassured Nigerians that the police force remains in control and is intensifying efforts to confiscate illegal light and small arms from unlawful holders.
Egbetokun said border patrols have been strengthened to stem the influx of irregular migrants into the country, enhancing national security.
The IGP said the arrested suspects, including 22 individuals detained in Jos, Plateau state, in connection with the killing of nine people travelling for a wedding in Quanpan, would soon be arraigned in court.
