Sen. Fadahunsi Celebrates Chief Bisi Akande On His 87th Birthday

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi OFR, representing Osun East Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries, has congratulated Chief Bisi Akande, the esteemed elder statesman and inaugural National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on his 87th birthday.

In a statement issued Friday by his Head of Media and Public Enlightenment, Omole Olusegun Omo-Osodi, Senator Fadahunsi hailed Chief Akande as a devoted Awoist, a champion of progressive politics, and a steadfast advocate for democracy and nation-building.

“I rejoice with His Excellency Chief Bisi Akande on this 87th birthday milestone. Known affectionately as ‘Baba awon Omo kekeke,’ he is a role model, mentor, and extraordinary figure of courage, deep conviction, and selfless service—past and present.

“Your life remains a shining example for us all to emulate. Ẹ ti dagbà, ẹ o dogbo. Ẹ o fi ọwọ yin pa ewu lagbara Ọlọrun.”

Senator Fadahunsi emphasized that “selfless service has been Baba Akande’s watchword since entering politics,” highlighting his lifelong commitment to Nigeria’s progress.

Chief Akande’s distinguished career includes serving as Secretary to the Government of Old Oyo State, Deputy Governor, and Governor of Osun State (1999–2003). Nationally, he led as Interim National Chairman of the APC, driving its landmark 2015 victory and beyond. A key NADECO figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, his leadership, integrity, and wisdom advanced progressive governance.

Today, as Chairman of the University of Ibadan’s Governing Board, Chief Akande continues inspiring younger generations. Fadahunsi expressed deep gratitude for his wise counsel and support in his own political path: “Your contributions to our democracy and the APC’s triumphs are immeasurable. May you enjoy continued grace, strength, and good health.”

Chief Akande’s legacy of integrity and patriotism shines as a beacon for future leaders.

Happy birthday to a rare gem, an icon, and a living legend.

    Signed,
    Omole Olusegun Omo-Osodi
