Boko Haram Taking Over Army Barracks

A social media post has attributed certain individuals dressed in camouflage to Boko Haram militants celebrating their victory in Nigeria.

@K3lv1nB0b0, an X account, claimed in a nearly two-minute video posted on Sunday.

“Boko Haram taking over many Nigerian Military barracks & Rejoicing for their victory,” the caption reads.

The footage shows several trucks transporting heavily armed men across a vast stretch of land.

Gunfire echoes throughout the video as the men speak in an unidentified language, some cheering loudly.

The clip is filmed by one of the men, who repeatedly turns the camera toward himself and then back to the surroundings.

The claim that it was Boko Haram militants who were reportedly rejoicing after taking over “many” Nigerian military barracks has since gathered one million views.

It has also garnered 3.9k likes, 2.9k reposts, 1.3k bookmarks, and 1.1k comments.

But how true is the claim?

    VERIFICATION

Check conducted a reverse image search of the video and found that it was posted on Facebook in September.

It was posted by a Sudanese account, according to the Facebook’s page details.

“Check in, morale up, victory from God,” the post translated from Arabic read.

A clearer version of the video, uploaded to YouTube on October 1, provided supporting details.

Check observed that the trucks conveying the armed men were inscribed in Arabic.

The camouflage that the men wore also bore crests of the Sudanese flag.

Sudan is currently grappling with a civil war that began in April 2023 between two rival factions of the military government.

The conflict involves the Sudanese armed forces, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

    VERDICT

The claim that the men in the video are Boko Haram militants is false. The footage was not recorded in Nigeria.
