FG, Netherlands Strengthen Strategic Cooperation on Border Security, Migration Management, And Bilateral Partnership

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation on border security, migration governance, and strategic partnerships, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in fostering safer, more structured migration systems.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated this while receiving the Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Netherlands, Mr. Victor Cramer, alongside the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Nigeria and their delegation during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, the Minister stressed the value the Federal Government places on sustainable partnerships and shared solutions.

“Just as we value economic stability, we equally value strong partnerships. We see our collaborators not merely as partners, but as strategic allies with whom we can build long-term solutions,” he said.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the government’s commitment to developing robust border-control mechanisms aimed at safeguarding national security while promoting humane and effective migration management. According to him, stakeholder engagement and international collaboration remain critical to strengthening regional stability and improving outcomes for affected communities.

In his remarks, Mr. Victor Cramer commended Nigeria’s consistent and productive cooperation on migration and border management, noting that the partnership stands out as a model of constructive engagement and effective inter-agency coordination.

“We do not take this cooperation for granted. Our collaboration with Nigeria has been marked by professionalism, trust, and mutual respect. The level of coordination with the Nigeria Immigration Service and other institutions has been exemplary,” he stated.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to secure the nation’s borders, protect its citizens, and continue working closely with international stakeholders to build effective and sustainable systems for the future.
