Mental Problem Made Me Attack Fan Who Stormed Stage At Lagos Concert; Says Burna Boy
Amid criticisms over his attack on a fan who jumped on stage in excitement during the Greater Lagos 2024 concert, Nigerian musician Burna Boy has justified his actions, saying he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Burna Boy, in an Instagram post on Wednesday, warned fans against jumping on stage whenever he is performing because of his PTSD.
โEverybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when Iโm performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Donโt jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy new year,โ Burna Boy wrote.
For those who criticised the Grammy Award winner for ending his performance abruptly due to the incident, Burna Boy said, โIt was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 mins and did almost an hour.โ
A video of the incident has since gone viral, sparking widespread criticism of the artisteโs actions. Many Nigerians expressed disappointment, with some calling Burna Boyโs response โbrutal.โ
โBurna Boy kicked a fan who jumped on stage to hug him at the Greater Lagos concert,โ said an X user, @Poojamedia. โI feel for the fan.โ
Another user, @GreenBoyofLagos, said, โThe fan was just showing love and enthusiasm and didnโt deserve to be kicked.
โSecurity shouldโve handled it better. Hope the fan is okay, and Burna Boy can make it up to them. Thatโs so sad.โ
However, some defended Burna Boy, suggesting that his reaction might have been driven by a need to protect himself, as he could not have known the fanโs intentions when he jumped on stage.
