Nigerian Navy Appoints Captain Folorunsho as New Director of Naval Information

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, has approved the appointment of Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information and Spokesperson of the Nigerian Navy.
Captain Folorunsho formally took over the office on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Alu, who had served in the position for over two years. Commodore Adams-Alu has since been redeployed to a higher strategic appointment as the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Nigerian Navy’s premier base.
Captain Folorunsho was born on 27 December 1979 in Benin City, Edo State, into the family of the late Major Peter Adeboji Folorunsho (rtd) and Mrs. Rukayat Esther Folorunsho. He began his primary education at Olua Primary School, Benin City, and later attended Army Command Children School, Zaria, between 1983 and 1990.
He completed his secondary education at the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, from 1991 to 1996, and was subsequently admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 1998 as a member of the 50 Regular Course. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy as a Sub-Lieutenant in September 2003.
The new Director of Naval Information holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Nigerian Defence Academy. He also possesses multiple postgraduate qualifications, including a Master of Science degree in War Studies (Maritime) from the National Defence University, Islamabad, Pakistan; a Master of Science degree in International Affairs and Defence Studies from the NDA, Kaduna; a Master of Science degree in Energy Management from the World Maritime University, Malmö, Sweden; and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College, Rhode Island, USA.
In addition, Captain Folorunsho holds a Graduate Certificate in Ethics and Emerging Military Technology from the United States Naval War College.
Over the course of his naval career, Captain Folorunsho has attended numerous local and international professional courses, including the Junior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Nigeria; the Senior Staff Course at the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, Pakistan; as well as United Nations staff and peace support–related courses.
His appointment comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic communication and public engagement within the Nigerian Navy.
