    Women’s Rights Fundamental Entitlements Not Concessions From Men, Ojukwu Insists At CSW70 In New York

    The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Dr. Tony Ojukwu OFR, SAN reaffirmed that women’s rights are not concessions from men but fundamental human entitlements that should be protected by all stakeholders.

    Speaking at a sideline event during the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York, USA, the learned Silk stressed that women are demanding their rights and not privileges,he called on men to support gender equity.

    At the occasion which was organized by Nigerian Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Ojukwu emphasized that true justice requires inclusion, noting that women must be part of decision-making processes. “You cannot talk about women without having them at the table,” he said.

    The Chief Human Rights Officer of Nigeria disclosed that the Commission has adopted zero tolerance for sexual harassment and increased women’s leadership representation to 10 out of 15 director positions.

    According to him, when women feel safe and empowered, they perform exceptionally, adding that economic support and awareness are key to ending gender-based violence.

    Other Nigerian participants at the occasion included the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of Onni of Ife, Her Regal Majesty, Temitope Ogunwusi, among others.

    The engagement reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to advancing gender equality and promoting partnerships that drive justice and inclusive development.
