    BREAKING: Dangote Refinery Makes U-turn

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of petrol in naira, a day after suspending the initiative.

In an email to clients on Saturday, Dangote refinery said the resumption was as a result of the federal government’s intervention.

“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technical committee chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS Sales in Naira commencing immediately,” the email reads.

“You may kindly proceed to place your orders in Naira for both Self collection and Free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locations across the country.”

On Friday, the refinery suspended the sale of petrol in naira, citing the depletion of its crude-for-naira allocation.

Nigeria commenced the sale of crude oil and refined petroleum products in naira to local refineries on October 1, 2024, to improve supply, save the country millions of dollars in petroleum products imports, and ultimately reduce pump prices.

On March 10, 2025, Naija News House reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited halted the naira-for-crude deal until 2030, as the government-owned company had forward-sold all its crude oil.

Days later, Dangote refinery said it had temporarily halted the sale of petroleum products in naira.

However, on April 9, the federal government said the naira-for-crude oil deal will continue after the first phase, which ended on March 31.

On May 9, Wale Edun, the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, promised to provide further updates on the naira-for-crude deal in due course.
