Unbelievable: Top Nigerian politician Bails Out Notorious Drug Dealer, Swears Affidavit To Fulfil ₦8Million Bail Conditions

Ibrahim Namadi, the Kano State Commissioner of Transport, has stood as surety to a suspected notorious drug dealer, Suleiman Danwawu.

The commissioner came to the rescue of the accused drug kingpin after the no-nonsense judge, Justice MS Shu’aibu, imposed what appears to be stringent bail conditions.

While granting the bail application on July 16, it was gathered that the judge ordered the accused to produce a serving commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council as a surety as well as a deposit a N5milion.

But what appears a herculean task of producing a member of Governor Abba Yusuf’s cabinet to stand as a surety for the accused drug dealer was simplified by Mr Namadi who swore to an affidavit of means and wrote a letter to the court, standing as a surety.

In a letter dated 18 July, 2025 and addressed to the deputy chief registrar of the Federal High Court, Kano, Mr Namadi applied to stand as a surety to Mr Danwawu.

The letter, exclusively obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN, read: “I humbly wish to apply to stand as surety for the Defendant in the above suit (SULAIMAN AMINU) who was granted bail by this Honourable Court in the sum of Three Million Naira only (N3,000,000.00) and one surety in the like sum also the Defendant shall deposit N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira) only which shall be placed in an interest yielding Account.

“I undertake to abide by the bail conditions imposed on the Defendant and promise to produce him before the Court on all adjourned dates until the final determination of the case. I hope my application will be considered.”

When contacted for comment on the matter, Mr Namadi said he was in a meeting, promising to revert afterward.

He has yet to call back at the time of filing this report.

It was reported that on May 21, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, filed eight-count charges bordering on drug trafficking at the Federal High Court, Kano against Mr Danwawu.

After arraignment on May 28, the case was adjourned to June 16 for hearing of the bail application. The accused was subsequently remanded in prison custody.

Considering the public interest generated by the case, the Kano branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, had announced its intention to closely monitor the trial of Mr Danwawu.
