Arewa Youths Calls For Urgent Electoral Reform In Response To Supreme Court Ruling
The Arewa Revival Project (ARP) welcomes the recent Supreme Court ruling ordering the Federal Government to halt allocation of funds to Local Governments in Nigeria, citing the absence of democratically elected Local Government Chairmen. This landmark decision presents an opportunity for much-needed electoral reform.
We urgently call on the National Assembly, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and all relevant stakeholders to take immediate action and pass a law amending the Electoral Act. This amendment must include provisions for:
– Electronic voting
– Transmission of election results from polling units to the national collation center
The ARP believes that this move is crucial to ensure the democratic representation of the people at the local government level and to strengthen the country’s electoral process. We demand swift action from all concerned parties to address this critical issue and entrench electronic voting and result transmission in our electoral system.
