    Ex-ADC Woman Leader Joins APC

The former National Woman Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Kayauta Yakubu, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yakubu was received into the ruling party on Tuesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja by the APC National Woman Leader, Dr. Mary Alile-Idele, alongside party officials, supporters and political associates. Also present at the ceremony was the APC Chairman for Kuje Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Danladi Ibrahim.
Speaking on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Dr. Alile-Idele expressed delight over Yakubu’s decision to join the APC, describing it as a move into a growing and forward-looking political platform.
She said the APC remains open to Nigerians willing to contribute to national development, adding that the party’s expanding membership reflects growing public confidence in its leadership and policies.
Alile-Idele commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what she described as positive reforms in governance, infrastructure development and empowerment initiatives, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which she said has improved access to higher education for Nigerian youths.
“On behalf of the National Chairman of our party, I am delighted to receive my sister and friend, the former National Woman Leader of ADC, who has chosen to leave a sinking ship and join a moving train, the APC,” she said.
“The APC is an inclusive and strategic party. Our doors remain open to all Nigerians who share our vision. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced reforms that are already making a difference in education, empowerment and infrastructure.”
She noted that Yakubu joined the APC alongside her supporters, describing her as a leader with strong grassroots followership, particularly among women, and urged her to immediately begin mobilization efforts ahead of forthcoming elections.
In her remarks, Hon. Kayauta Yakubu said her decision to defect was based on her assessment of governance and development under the APC-led administration.
The Kuje-born politician from Rubochi Ward in the Federal Capital Territory said she joined the APC voluntarily to contribute to national growth and grassroots political development.
“I decided to join APC after observing the progress being made, especially in security and development. Nobody persuaded me; this is my personal decision,” Yakubu said.
“I was part of APC during the merger but later left. Today, I have decided to return home. I was a lost daughter, but now I am found.”
She expressed her determination to work for the party and serve the people of the FCT, stressing her readiness to contribute meaningfully to the APC’s electoral success.
Welcoming her back, the APC Chairman for Kuje Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Danladi Ibrahim, described Yakubu as a founding member of the party with proven mobilization capacity.
He expressed confidence that her return would strengthen the APC, particularly ahead of the forthcoming Area Council elections.
“Hon. Kayauta Yakubu is a grassroots politician with a track record of mobilization. Her return will greatly enhance our strength as we prepare for the elections,” Ibrahim said.
