BREAKING: Explosion Rocks Kwara State, Triggers Panic Among Residents
Explosions late Thursday night rocked parts of Offa town in Kwara State, destroying properties and causing panic among residents.
The incident occurred around 10 pm, according to the Kwara State Police Command. Reports indicate that the first explosion affected several buildings around a Muslim praying ground area, while a second blast occurred near Solid Worth Hotel, about a five-minute walk from the initial site.
Eyewitnesses said an undetonated explosive device was discovered at the second location, prompting heightened security measures in the area. However, the exact source and nature of the explosions remain unclear.
The explosions took place on the same night the United States reportedly launched a series of air strikes on ISIS terrorists in Sokoto State. Offa is approximately 540 kilometres by air from Sokoto.
Confirming the incident, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, told TheCable that investigations were ongoing.
“Investigations are ongoing on that incident to ascertain what exactly happened, if it is an explosion or not,” she said.
In a separate statement, Abiola Babatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the Offa Local Government Area chairman, said the council was aware of the situation. He added that security agencies had cordoned off the affected areas to allow for a thorough investigation.
Residents have been urged to remain calm while security agencies continue efforts to determine the cause of the incident.
