Many Feared Killed, Injured as Tyre Burst Triggers Fatal Auto Crash
At least seven passengers have lost their lives while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a fatal road accident in Yobe State.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, and made available to journalists.
According to the statement, the accident occurred on December 26, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m., after the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting a motor accident along the Badejo axis.
“The incident involved a Sharon bus conveying passengers from Lawanti Area of Akko Local Government Area in Gombe State to Maiduguri, Borno State,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle, driven by one Gambo Abbo, suffered a rear tyre burst while in motion. The sudden mechanical failure caused the driver to lose control, forcing the vehicle off the road and into nearby bushes.
The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Emmanuel Ado, expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy and full recovery.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to promoting road safety across the state and urged motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and desist from reckless driving to prevent avoidable tragedies.
