Flood Disaster: Nigeria Expresses Solidarity With Morocco, Mourns Victims

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco following devastating floods that have struck the country’s northern regions, leading to the loss of lives, widespread displacement, and extensive destruction of property and critical infrastructure.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria described the scale of human suffering and material damage as heartbreaking, noting that homes, farmlands, public utilities, transportation networks, and other essential facilities were severely affected by the natural disaster.

Nigeria affirmed that it stands firmly with Morocco during this difficult period, acknowledging the immense emotional toll on affected families and communities, as well as the national burden of emergency response, recovery, and long-term reconstruction.
The Federal Government also commended the Moroccan authorities, emergency services, and humanitarian agencies for their swift, coordinated, and resolute response, particularly in search-and-rescue operations, provision of emergency shelter, medical care, relief materials, and protection of vulnerable populations.

According to the statement, these efforts reflect Morocco’s strong institutional capacity, preparedness, and commitment to the safety and welfare of its citizens.

Nigeria expressed confidence that, through sustained national efforts and international cooperation, the affected regions will recover and rebuild, with improved systems to mitigate future climate-related risks and disasters.

In conveying heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, Nigeria extended sincere sympathies to all victims who suffered loss, displacement, and hardship as a result of the floods.

The statement added that the thoughts and prayers of the Government and people of Nigeria remain with His Majesty the King, the Government, and the people of Morocco, while expressing hopes for the safety of affected communities, the swift restoration of normalcy, and the successful rebuilding of lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure.

The message was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr,
Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
