    Former U.S. President Is Dead

    U.S. President

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, has passed away at the age of 100, as confirmed by the Carter Center, an organisation he founded to promote democracy and human rights globally.

Carter, a former peanut farmer, made history by living longer than any other US president, and had celebrated his 100th birthday just a few months ago in October.

He died on Sunday afternoon in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. During his presidency, from 1977 to 1981, Carter navigated the country through challenging economic and diplomatic times.

In July, the Carter Center dismissed rumours of his death, confirming to Scripps News that a letter circulating on social media, purporting to announce the death of the former President, was false.

The letter, which appeared to be on official letterhead from the ‘Office of Jimmy Carter,’ incorrectly stated that Carter passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, and included a brief biography.

The Carter Center later verified that the letter was a hoax.

The false letter also included a paragraph evaluating certain policies enacted during former President Carter’s term in office.

President Carter has been receiving hospice care for over a year.
