BREAKING: Germany Rejects Fani-Kayode As Ambassador
Germany has reportedly declined the nomination of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, as Nigeria’s ambassador, citing concerns over his past public conduct and statements.
According to reports, German authorities raised objections to the appointment on the grounds of what they described as “erratic behaviour” and a pattern of divisive remarks perceived as ethnocentric and inflammatory.
The development is seen as a diplomatic setback for the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which had put forward Fani-Kayode as part of its ambassadorial nominations.
While there has been no official public statement from either the Nigerian government or German authorities confirming the decision, sources indicate that Berlin’s position was influenced by the nominee’s controversial public profile and history of outspoken commentary on ethnic and religious issues.
Fani-Kayode, a prominent political figure and former minister, has long been known for his strong opinions and frequent engagement in Nigeria’s political discourse, often sparking debate across social and traditional media.
Diplomatic nominations typically require the approval of host countries, and such rejections, though rare, can occur when concerns arise over a nominee’s suitability or public record.
The Nigerian government is yet to announce its next line of action regarding the reported rejection.
