Gov Udom Emmanuel donates N60million to families of murdered policemen. It has been reported that amid the recent unwarranted attacks on police formations in Akwa Ibom state, the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has donated the sum of N60 Million to the families of the deceased policemen in the deadly attacks which occurred some days ago in the state.
The governor paid an unscheduled visit to the police headquarters at Ikot Akpan Abia in the state’s capital immediately after the state EXCO meeting this afternoon.
On meeting the policemen, the governor expressed his sadness over the death of their fellow officers and urged the families of the dead officers to take heart and be consoled.
While speaking, the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew told the Governor that the command had lost 21 personnel, 11 vehicles, 7 firearms etc. ever since the deadly attacks on policemen in the state started.
He, however, told the governor that his visit has heightened the morale of the policemen and they are ready to do more.
Recall daredevil gunmen had launched an attack on police formations across the state.
The gunmen had first attacked the Ini police division about 2 days ago killing about 6 people.
The next day, the gunmen stormed another police station at Mkpatak, Essien Udim LGA where they also killed 2 policemen.
They later proceeded to another police station in Abak LGA where they burnt a part of the station and some police cars.
These attacks are an offshoot of what is currently happening in Imo state, Anambra state, Cross Rivers state and recently, Rivers State where policemen have become the targets of these gunmen.
The gunmen had been alleged to be IPOB militants but these claims have not been confirmed yet.
