Hisbah Destroys 243 Cartons Of Alcohol In Yobe, Reaffirms Ban On Alcohol Sales
On Thursday The Yobe State Hisbah Commission destroyed 243 cartons of alcoholic beverages confiscated during a recent raid at Maina Lodge in Damaturu, the state capital, as part of its ongoing crackdown on the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state.
The public destruction exercise, which took place in Damaturu, was led by the Chairman of the Hisbah Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, and witnessed by security operatives, government officials, and members of the public.
According to Dr. Yahuza, the confiscated alcohol — comprising various brands and types — was destroyed in accordance with the state’s religious and legal prohibitions against the consumption, distribution, and sale of intoxicants.
He asserted that the consumption, sale, and distribution of alcohol remain prohibited under Yobe State laws and religious principles.
He added that Thursday’s action reflected their commitment to enforcing moral discipline and ensuring public safety.
The Hisbah Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his unwavering support for the Commission’s operations, crediting the governor’s leadership for empowering the agency to enforce the state’s moral codes effectively.
In a related development, the Local Government Hisbah Unit in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, also carried out the destruction of 17 cartons of alcohol. This, officials say, reinforces the Commission’s zero-tolerance policy on intoxicants across all parts of the state.
Dr. Yahuza urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or immoral activities, including the illegal sale or possession of alcohol, to the appropriate authorities for swift intervention.
The Yobe State Hisbah Commission reiterated its resolve to uphold religious values, promote public morality, and ensure that state laws are respected across all communities.
