20-Year-Old Suspect With ‘Human Leg’ Hidden In Sack Arrested

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 20-year-old man, Garuba Aminu, for allegedly being in possession of an item suspected to be a human body part in Oyo town. In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command disclosed that the suspect was apprehended after residents became suspicious of his movements at the Commercial Oroki area. According to the police, the incident occurred on February 20, 2026, at about 8am, when Aminu allegedly disguised himself as a scavenger. The statement noted that vigilant residents observed his “strange movements and conduct” and decided to search him, leading to a shocking discovery. During the search, community members reportedly found “a cut lower right leg suspected to be a human part… inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession.” Police said a joint patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene after receiving distress information, where officers met an enraged crowd preparing to attack the suspect. The command stated that officers “swiftly rushed to the scene where an angry mob had gathered with intent to lynch the suspect,” adding that the team “professionally dispersed the mob and rescued him from imminent harm,” while the recovered item was secured for forensic examination. The police further revealed that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for what it described as a “discreet and thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.” The command commended residents whose vigilance led to the arrest, saying their actions highlighted the importance of community participation in crime prevention. It, however, warned against jungle justice, cautioning members of the public “against taking laws into their hands or engaging in mob action, as such acts are unlawful and capable of obstructing justice.” The police assured residents that investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates as the probe progresses.
