ICPC Hosts NIS Comptroller, Reinforces Joint Fight Against Graft

The Kano State Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ahmad Muhammad Wada, Esq., has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthened inter-agency collaboration during a courtesy visit by the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kano Command, Tahir Ahmad Lawan.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, 4 February 2026, was aimed at reinforcing institutional cooperation in promoting transparency, accountability, and efficient public service delivery.
In his remarks, Comptroller Lawan stated that the engagement was designed to identify critical areas of partnership between the NIS and the ICPC. He highlighted ongoing modernisation efforts within the Immigration Service, including the deployment of technology to enhance border security, the introduction of automated border control gates, and the Diaspora Passport Initiative, which has simplified passport renewal for Nigerians living abroad.
According to him, these innovations not only improve service delivery but also help to detect, monitor, and minimise corruption-prone activities within the Service. He reiterated the NIS’s commitment to ethical standards and legal compliance, stressing the importance of aligning operational strategies with the ICPC to boost efficiency and public confidence.
The Comptroller further commended the role of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) within the NIS, describing it as a vital internal mechanism for accountability and integrity that strengthens external collaboration with the ICPC.
Responding, Resident Commissioner Wada welcomed the Comptroller and his delegation, emphasising that inter-agency collaboration remains central to effective corruption prevention. He explained that the ICPC’s preventive mandate focuses on reviewing systems and processes within public institutions to identify and eliminate corruption vulnerabilities.
By addressing these loopholes, he noted, the Commission contributes to stronger institutional frameworks and more transparent service delivery across the public sector.
Commissioner Wada assured the NIS Kano Command of the ICPC’s full support in advancing its anti-corruption initiatives. As part of the visit, he presented information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to the Comptroller to further support integrity awareness.
The visit concluded with a symbolic exchange of goodwill, as Comptroller Lawan presented an appreciation plaque to the ICPC Kano office, underscoring the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening integrity and combating corruption in public service.
