Iranian Leader Blasts Trump Over Alleged Tyranny, Lists Past Despots
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, on Friday strongly criticised former US President Donald Trump, accusing him of “tyrannical” behaviour and warning that, like despotic rulers throughout history, he could ultimately face downfall.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Khamenei said leaders who govern with arrogance and hubris have repeatedly met their end at the height of their power. He referenced historical figures such as Pharaoh, Nimrod, and Iran’s former monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as examples.
“The US President who judges arrogantly about the whole world should know that tyrants and arrogant rulers of the world, such as Pharaoh, Nimrod, Mohammad Reza [Pahlavi] and other such rulers saw their downfall when they were at the peak of their hubris. He too will fall,” Khamenei wrote.
The remarks come amid longstanding hostility between Iran and the United States, characterised by diplomatic standoffs, sweeping sanctions, and frequent verbal clashes between senior officials of both countries. As Iran’s highest political and religious authority, Khamenei has repeatedly criticised US leadership and foreign policy, often framing his statements in historical and ideological terms.
Tensions have further escalated following reports that Trump, in June 2025, praised Israel’s military strikes on Iran. According to ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl, Trump described the Israeli attack as “excellent” during an interview and warned that additional strikes could follow.
“I think it’s been excellent. We gave them a chance and they didn’t take it. They got hit hard, very hard. They got hit about as hard as you’re going to get hit. And there’s more to come, a lot more,” Trump was quoted as saying.
Trump’s remarks came amid rising instability in the Middle East, following a series of confrontations between Iran and Israel in recent weeks. Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Israeli strikes as a “blatant act of aggression,” stating that the attacks targeted Iranian territory, including the capital, Tehran.
The exchange reflects the intensifying rhetoric and growing regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, raising concerns about further escalation in the region.
