BREAKING: Dozens Feared Dead, Injured Terrorists Attack Kebbi Community
Dozens of residents are feared dead while several others sustained injuries following a deadly attack by gunmen suspected to be terrorists in Gebbe community, Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Local sources said the attackers struck suddenly, firing indiscriminately at residents and causing widespread panic. Many villagers were forced to flee into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities to escape the violence.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as shocking and unprecedented for the area, which has reportedly not experienced such an attack in recent years.
“The gunmen came suddenly and started shooting. People ran in all directions. We are still in shock. Many have fled to surrounding villages,” a resident, who asked not to be named, told SaharaReporters.
The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, told Channels Television that security personnel have been deployed to the community and are currently assessing the situation.
“We are on top of the matter and are working to determine the number of casualties and injuries. An official statement will be issued soon,” Usman said.
Residents of the affected community have appealed to the state and federal governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently intervene, describing the attack as deadly and alarming.
Efforts to reach the village head for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, security sources disclosed that reinforcements have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and restore calm.
