    LG Chairman Fights State House of Assembly in Benue

    LG Chairman Fights State House of Assembly in Benue

    The Benue State House of Assembly has constituted a five-member ad-hoc committee, chaired by Hon. Mrs. Becky Orpin, to investigate the criminal allegations against Hon. Sunday Oche, Chairman of Ado Local Government Council.

    Other members of the committee are Hon. Kennedy Angbo, Hon. Barr. Williams Ortyom, Hon. Gyila Solomon, Hon. Dr. Mathew Damkor and Mr. Joseph Awuna as Secretary.

    This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Mrs. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, Deputy Speaker and member representing Ado State Constituency, informing the House that the Ado Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sunday Oche, had allegedly engaged in criminal activities, causing immense hardship and perpetual fear among the people of the area.

    Hon. Mrs. Danladi noted that the Chairman has set up an illegal Special Team with an illegal detention cell in a forest in obioge village where they keep their abductors and kidnapped victims until ransom is paid.

    She further explains that those who refuse to pay ransom charges are detained and made to pass through all sorts of inhuman tortures including rape, painful body harm resulting to severe injuries and deaths.

    Members including Hon. Bemdoo Ipusu and Hon. Douglas Akya,expressed concern over the alleged formation of a criminal team by the Chief Security Officer, who was supposed to protect the people, and urged the House to investigate the matter to uncover the truth behind the allegations.

    The Speaker Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh accordingly set up a five man adhoc committee to investigate the matter and report back to the house within two weeks.

    Also during Plenary the House set a five man adhoc Committee chaired by Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako, with Hon. Manager Manger, Hon. Anyor Matu, Hon. Isaac Ochikliye, Hon. Moses Egbodo as members while Francis Adole is to serve as Secretary.

    The mandate of the adhoc committee is to investigate the petition by one Mr. Ojotu Mohammed Olotu against the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission. The Committee is to report back to the house within two weeks.

    Also during plenary, the House expressed displeasure over the absence of Head of Service Moses Agbogbo Ode and Special Adviser on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Denen Aondoakaa, summoning them to appear before the House on Friday, August 1st, 2025, without fail.

    Four bills also enjoyed first reading on the floor of the House today, they are, A bill for a law to regulate the activities of scavengers in Benue State, Sponsored by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh and thirty one others, The Benue State Power Rotation Bill by Hon. Samuel Agada. The Benue State Pension Administration and Free Health Care Bill, and the Benue State Agency Against Quackery sponsored by Hon. Douglas Akya.

    The House also approved the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order Barr. Fidelis Mnyim the request to appear before it on Tuesday, August 5th, to provide updates on the bills assented to by the Executive.

    The Commissioner who appeared before the house today, pleaded for more time.
