Nigeria Commiserates With Algeria On The Passing Of Former President Liamine Zeroual
The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has received with profound sadness the news of the passing of former President Liamine Zeroual of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, who died at the age of 84.
On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, extends heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Government and people of Algeria, as well as to the family of the late former President, during this period of national mourning.
Nigeria joins the people of Algeria in honouring the memory of President Zeroual, a distinguished statesman, patriot, and former military officer whose service to his country spanned critical moments in Algeria’s national history. His leadership during a challenging transitional period and his role in guiding Algeria through political stabilization and democratic transition remain significant chapters in the country’s institutional development.
The late President Zeroual’s legacy as a respected national figure and elder statesman resonates beyond Algeria’s borders, particularly within Africa, where his contributions to peace, statecraft, and national unity continue to be acknowledged.
At this moment of grief, the Government and people of Nigeria stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Algeria and convey sincere prayers for strength, comfort, and peace.
