Man Kills Childhood Friend Over Woman

A 25-year-old man, Hammed Usman Tunde, has been stabbed to death allegedly by his friend, identified as Gafar, during a quarrel over a woman.

The incident, gathered, occurred on Tuesday at the Oja Gboro area of Ilorin when the two friends, described as close companions, engaged in an argument while buying sugarcane from a trader.

Witnesses said the heated exchange quickly turned into violent and the 21-year-old suspect, Gafar, allegedly stabbed Tunde on the chest with a knife.

The victim, a resident of Ile-Soro 2 in the Oja Gboro, Isale Koko area, was said to have been rushed to a nearby private hospital before being referred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect, a native of Ile Olowo in the same area, reportedly fled immediately after the attack.

His whereabouts and those of his family members remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.

The deceased’s sister described the killing as heartbreaking, calling on the state government and security agencies to ensure justice is served.

She said her brother was peaceful and did not deserve to die in such a cruel manner.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust during a telephone chat on Thursday.

According to her, “Yes, the command is aware, and the CP, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered that the case be transferred to the CID for discreet investigation. However, no arrest has been made.”
