Man Torture Nephew To Death For Allegedly Stealing Son’s N20,000
A 77-year-old leader of local hunters in Adamawa State, Jalo Shuaibu, has allegedly tortured his 14-year-old nephew, Ismaila Salisu to death.
The minor was allegedly tortured over the allegation that he stole N20,000 belonging to Shuaibu’s son.
Shuaibu reportedly detailed four operatives of his outfit, among them his two children to arrest and torture his nephew, whom he accused of stealing the money.
The incident happened on June 2, 2024, in the Maiha Local Government Area of the state, according to the father of the deceased, Salisu Shuaibu.
It was learnt that Shuaibu allegedly ordered Salisu to be tied and tortured in the scorching sun, leading to his death.
The hunter was arrested on June 6, alongside four accomplices, among them his two children, Ishaku Jalo, 37 and Ayuba Jalo, 33; following a formal complaint lodged by the father of the deceased boy.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrests on Friday, saying, “It was the father of the deceased that reported the case three days after the alleged murder.”
He added, “Investigation revealed that following an allegation of N20,000 theft, the 14-year-old victim was illegally arrested, illegally detained and tortured in an attempt to extract a confessional statement.
“He was tied and left under the sun for several hours and he slumped. When he was later taken to a hospital, he was discovered dead. All the suspects have confessed to the crime.
“The deceased’s father had initially left the matter to God, but later changed his mind and reported to the police, after suspecting that the killing of his son may have been ritualistically motivated.”
Nguroje assured that all the suspects would be charged after an investigation.
