Mass Resignation Rocks Yusuf Cabinet Over Defection To APC
The Kano State Executive Council has been hit by a wave of resignations following the defection of the state government to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, formally stepping down from his position.
In a resignation letter released on Tuesday, Kofarmata announced his decision to leave the cabinet, citing ideological differences with the current direction of the government. He stated that he could no longer continue to serve under an administration that had “derailed from the ideology that brought it to power.”
“Salam! I wish to categorically state that I hereby resign my appointment as the Commissioner and Member of the Kano State Executive Council,” the letter read. “I took this decision in good faith, as I cannot continue to work under the government that derailed from the ideology that brought it to power.”
Kofarmata also pledged his loyalty to the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, reaffirming his commitment to the party’s ideals.
He expressed appreciation to key political figures and supporters, saying: “On this note, I extend my gratitude to the national leader of the NNPP, Engr. Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the entire people who stood with us and made the journey successful. Alhamdulillah!”
The resignation is the latest development amid growing political tension in Kano State following the defection to the APC, a move that has sparked discontent among some members of the state executive council and party loyalists.
