Hisbah Bans Men-Women Interaction, Private Conversations
The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has issued a public notice warning residents against activities deemed contrary to the teachings of Sharia, particularly during festive occasions.
In the statement dated December 31, 2025, the Commission highlighted several behaviours to avoid, including “reckless driving or moving in vehicles, especially in public during weddings or Sallah celebrations,” and “physical interaction between men and women in vehicles, particularly on Keke Napep, motorcycles, or at public gatherings.”
The Commission also cautioned against “private conversations under the pretext of chatting between men and women, especially in ways that Sharia does not approve.”
The directive was issued by the office of the State Commander of the Hisbah Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale, with the approval of the Chairman of the Yobe State Hisbah Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar.
The Hisbah Commission called on parents and the wider community to support the enforcement of these rules, emphasizing that it is intended “to preserve the moral upbringing of our children.”
