VIDEO: Power-drunk National Assembly Lawmaker Insults, ‘Threatens To Eliminate’ Constituent Over 2027 Election
A member of the House of Representatives, Remi Oseni, has issued a threat against one of his constituents, Opeyemi.
Oseni, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has been involved in recent controversies, including a public disagreement with Minister of Works David Umahi over the country’s deteriorating road network.
In a video shared, the lawmaker representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency of Oyo State, is heard hurling insults at Opeyemi.
“It won’t be well with you,” the lawmaker said while referring to Opeyemi in the video.
He added, “Someone that has been cursed, he is so rude, so useless.”
The footage further shows the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker saying, “Because Sunday is aiming to go for House of Representatives in 2027, so we want you (Oseni) to contest for governorship, I said it won’t be well with you.
“It’s not useless people like you that will tell me to contest again for House of Reps or governorship. For your information, this slot for Reps is in my pocket.”
Speaking, an APC member said the video was recorded in Ibadan on December 26, 2024 during a meeting between Oseni and some of his constituents.
“I was there, I attended the meeting on the 26th of December 2024 at his Ibadan house. He said so many bad things not captured in the video you shared with me. He threatened to eliminate that person without facing any consequences.
“The person he was referring to is one Mr. Opeyemi who is also a member of our party, APC. Opeyemi is also a member of his federal constituency.
“He was threatening the man because he dumped him and started supporting Rt. Hon Sunday Adepoju to replace him in House of Representatives come 2027. He also accused Opeyemi of failing to join his ROCOF GROUP within the APC.
“The same Remi Oseni is also a governorship aspirant under APC in 2027. He even said during the meeting that Opeyemi will be made to disappear without any trace, though not captured in that video.”
When contacted, the lawmaker’s media aide, Ayodele Idowu, said that his principal never threatened to harm anyone.
“It is important to clarify that my principal, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, would never threaten to harm anyone, regardless of the level of provocation—whether in politics or business. I encourage you to thoroughly investigate his character,” he said.
“Today, in Oyo State and across Nigeria, his name is synonymous with hope, quality representation, humanitarian service, and God-fearing politics—values that many aspire to be associated with. This allegation is merely the handiwork of political adversaries who feel threatened by his outstanding performance and growing political influence, resorting to deliberate blackmail.”
He added, “A threat to life is a serious matter that the law does not take lightly. If, by any chance (though clearly untrue), the individuals mentioned—Sunday Adepoju and one Opeyemi—felt genuinely threatened, they should have reported the matter to the appropriate authorities such as the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), or even the courts, rather than resorting to the media.
“I trust it is clear to you, as a beacon of truth in society, that this is merely a calculated and clandestine campaign of calumny aimed at tarnishing Hon. Aderemi Oseni’s hard-earned reputation.”
This comes a few months after another House of Representatives member, Alex Ikwechegh was seen physically assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
Ikwechegh represents Aba North & South Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Going by the conversation recorded in the viral video, the lawmaker had ordered some snails from a vendor who engaged the services of the e-hailing App driver to deliver the goods.
The footage showed the visibly angry lawmaker repeatedly slapping and insulting the driver after the driver asked him to come outside to collect a package of snails meant for delivery.
Following the incident, Ikwechegh issued a public apology, acknowledging his actions and expressing regret over his behaviour during the altercation.
In a message posted on Instagram, the lawmaker apologised to the Bolt driver, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Assembly, admitting that his actions did not meet the standards expected of a public official, regardless of the provocation involved.
