The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), and Land Component Commander (LCC), Joint Task Force (JTF), South-South (SS), Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has today Tuesday, 24 June 2025 received in audience, participants of the Naval Warfare Course/9 from the Naval War College (NWC), Calabar, Cross River State. The team was on a five-day operational study tour to Rivers State.

The delegation, led by the Commandant NWC, Rear Admiral Akinola Olodude, paid a courtesy call on the GOC at the Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, as part of their field visit with the theme: “Optimising Technology for Effective Maritime Security Operations.”

In his remarks, the GOC/LCC JTF SS OPDS, Major General Emekah expressed delight in hosting the participants within his Area of Responsibility. He emphasized the importance of such engagements, noting that many of them will soon be deployed in field and joint operations. He further pointed out that acquiring firsthand knowledge of how joint operations are conducted would be of immense benefit to their future assignments.

Major General Emekah, urged the participants to take full advantage of the study tour, by learning from the experiences shared across all security components, the NA, Nigerian Navy (NN), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Nigeria Police, and other security agencies to enhance their strategic thinking and develop comprehensive solutions to operational challenges.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Akinola Olodude, appreciated the GOC for the warm reception and continued support to the NWC. He recalled the GOC’s recent visit to the College, where he delivered a lecture that significantly enriched the course content and the participants’ understanding of joint operations. He stressed that the visit was aimed at assessing how technology could be leveraged upon, across all the Services, in modernizing military operations, reduce costs and casualties, as well as improve overall operational effectiveness. The Commandant further noted that the interaction with field commanders such as the GOC would help shape participants’ operational mindset and decision-making in real-time situations.

He added that, at the end of the course, participants would present actionable recommendations to address challenges identified during the study tour for implementation by relevant authorities.

The visiting team included the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, seven faculty members, 28 support staff, and 30 course participants. The participants comprised 21 Commanders from the NN, two Lieutenant Colonels from the NA, two Wing Commanders from the NAF, and one representative from the National Defence College, Nigeria.
