    Newly Appointed IGP

Olatunji Disu, a veteran police officer with over three decades of service, has been appointed Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector-General of Police (IGP). His appointment was announced on Tuesday, February 23, 2026, following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, under directives from President Bola Tinubu.

Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. A graduate of Lagos State University (LASU) with a degree in English Education, he also holds master’s degrees in Public Administration and Criminology,

Security, and Legal Psychology. Disu has undergone extensive professional training both locally and internationally, covering areas such as small arms smuggling, internet fraud, strategic leadership, and forensic investigations.

Throughout his career, he has held key operational and leadership roles, including Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he led proactive crime-fighting initiatives.

He later became Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), taking over after the suspension of Abba Kyari. Disu has also served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, overseeing law enforcement and public safety in the nation’s capital.

Most recently, he was Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, where he strengthened investigative capacity and professionalism.

Renowned for his operational expertise, discipline, and commitment to professionalism, Disu has built a reputation as a strategic leader with extensive experience in crime control, intelligence, and policing strategy.

His appointment as IGP is seen as a continuation of steady leadership within the Nigeria Police Force, amid ongoing efforts to reform the institution and enhance investigative effectiveness
