See Much Revenue Nigerian Customs Generate In Six Months
The Nigeria Customs Service has announced that it amassed the sum of N1.23 trillion naira as revenue in six months at the Apapa port in Lagos.
The January – June 2024 revenue marks an unprecedented increase from the same first six months period in the preceding year. The sum of N421 billion was made in this period, showing an increase of 143%.
This development was confirmed and highlighted by Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, who is in charge of the Apapa command while briefing journalists.
The customs also noted that they seized six containers at terminals containing prohibited items including expired Pharmaceuticals, and unregistered products.
Others include three containers loaded with over 7,000 poultry products with duty value totalling N424 million.
The director of investigation and enforcement at National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Shaba Mohammed, noted that the vessel accosted came in and the agency tracked it from the port of loading.
“We did not allow it to land because there was no declaration. Anywhere you see frozen food, as long as it’s imported, it’s a no-go area for us,” NAFDAC said.
