Senator Bassey Lauds Umo Eno Over Flags Off 10.9km Nsan Use-Ikot Amama-Ibiaku Ikot Esifa-Iton Road
The senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Aniekan Bassey has commended Governor Umo Eno for setting a remarkable precedent by flagging off the construction of the 10.9km Nsan Use-Ikot Amama-Ibiaku Ikot Esifa-Iton Mmong-Nkwot Edem Edet Road and Spur, complete with two bridges and a drainage system, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, in an era where political vendettas often take precedence over governance.
Senator Bassey, who made this known to Journalists on Thursday, said โThis infrastructural intervention, beyond its obvious economic and social benefits, carries a deeper political and humanitarian significance. It is a bold statement of governance that prioritizes people over politics, development over division, and progress over past grievances.โ
However, the Senator explained that Governor Enoโs act of humanity underscores the transformative impact of his leadership.
โHaving faced opposition from Ibiono Ibom during the 2023 electioneering campaign, Governor Eno could have easily sidelined the area in his developmental agenda. Instead, he has chosen a path that many in the political space would have found difficult, extending the olive branch and investing hugely in a community that once doubted his leadership,โ he said.
Senator Bassey maintained that he understands the weight of the Governorโs action, adding that โpersonally experienced hostility in Ibiono Ibom for supporting Umo Enoโs candidacy, as evidenced by the taunts he received for donning the Governorโs campaign cap. However, the Governorโs latest move has rendered such political animosities irrelevant. It has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and sent a clear message that under his administration, development will not be determined by political allegiance but by the need to uplift all communities.โ
โBeyond politics, the road construction project is a lifeline for the people of Ibiono Ibom and its environs. Improved infrastructure translates to better connectivity, increased economic activities, and overall enhancement of living standards. The construction of the two bridges further demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in the stateโs development trajectory.โ
โGovernor Umo Enoโs leadership style is a lesson in reconciliation and pragmatism. While some leaders wield power as a tool for political retribution, he is using it as an instrument of unity and progress. His actions not only strengthen the social contract between the government and the people but also foster a spirit of political tolerance and coexistence.โ
Speaking further, Senator Bassey said โThis act of statesmanship has not gone unnoticed, as it has further endeared Governor Eno to the people of Akwa Ibom. It serves as a reminder that true leadership is about service, and service knows no political boundaries. In choosing development over division, Governor Umo Eno has set a standard that will define his legacy and, perhaps, inspire a new era of politics in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.โ
