NURTW Boss Threatens To Punish Anyone Who Refuses To Vote APC In 2027

The Department of State Services (DSS) has grilled the Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, for warning that those who refuse to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 will face consequences.

Earlier, during a recent meeting of the NURTW, Lagos State Council, Adekunle said in a video seen by SaharaReporters, “Anyone who refuses to vote for APC or who says he has decided to vote against APC will be dealt with, the person will learn a lesson. If you say you will not listen to us, we too will not agree.”

The DSS, however, summoned him over the comments.

In a video released on Friday after the summons and published by Goldmyne TV, he denied threatening anyone who refuses to vote for the APC.

He claimed he was being targeted by ‘propaganda’.

“I was invited by the DSS, and they asked me about my statements and said that someone reported me. I didn’t threaten anyone; this is the will of the people who do not want the work I’m doing in Lagos to prosper. What the DSS said they were told is not true,” he said.

“I was only talking about our union, and I know it’s my rivals because in unions, there are rivals. You can decide to belong to any group. We know where we belong and who we want to vote for,” he said, denying his earlier statements where he threatened anyone who refuses to vote for the APC in 2027.

Recall that during the 2023 elections, it was reported that voting was disrupted at a polling unit in Lagos by hoodlums suspected to be APC members or their loyalists.

In a video, an eyewitness gave an account of how the political thugs drove away voters.

The incident occurred at polling unit 005 in the Sangotedo area of the state.

Earlier, then-Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, threatened residents who refused to vote for the APC in the state, warning them to stay at home.

“We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it doesn’t call for a fight. Iya Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, stay at home,” he said in a viral video that was widely condemned by the public.

More recently, in the first week of September, it was reported that thugs, reportedly protected by Nigerian police personnel, unleashed terror on the team of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos.

According to Gbadebo in a video, the thugs, said to number over 40, stormed a second venue secured for an African Democratic Congress (ADC) event in Lagos after the police had sealed off the earlier venue.

Gbadebo’s personal photographer was reportedly macheted by the thugs, leaving him unconscious before he was later revived.

Speaking on the incident, the photographer said, “The people that came are thugs and they were guarded by the police; they macheted me and left me for dead. This is the height of it.”
