Bandits: Many Feared Killed, Injured In Katsina Amid ‘Peace Deal’

Bandits have reportedly killed two people and injured several others in a violent attack on Tuge town in the Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State. Residents said the attackers stormed the community around 7am, firing sporadically and sending people fleeing for safety. Several victims sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment. The attack occurred despite repeated peace deals brokered between Musawa LGA stakeholders and bandit groups operating in the area. Community leaders had hoped the agreements would reduce violence and allow displaced residents to return to normal life. According to a security analyst, Bakatsine, an a social media post, the latest incident showed the peace agreements had not produced lasting results, adding that the attack “has exposed the weakness of the peace arrangement in protecting rural communities.” He said the attack also demonstrated that “the bandits still have the capacity to strike at will,” and that “security agencies should rethink their approach and strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.” The source further stated that “the peace deals are good, but they need to be backed by stronger security measures to prevent such attacks.” Security forces were said to have been alerted as the attackers withdrew, but many residents questioned the effectiveness of the peace arrangements, noting that this latest attack shows the continued vulnerability of rural communities in Katsina State.
