Police Ban Night Grazing, Farming, Commercial Motorcycles

The Plateau State Police Command has announced a ban on night grazing, late-night farming, beer parlour operations, and night mining activities across the state from December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025.

The ban also extends to commercial motorcycle operations during this period.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Alabo Alfred.

The directive follows a series of engagements with stakeholders, including local government council chairmen, to ensure a peaceful and secure atmosphere during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

โ€œThis measure is part of proactive efforts to prevent crimes and maintain public safety during the festive season,โ€ he said.

The Police Command stated its commitment to working with community leaders and residents to sustain law and order in Plateau State.

The statement read, “In a bid to ensure a hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebration, held a strategic security meeting with council chairmen of some local government areas of the state, yesterday at the command headquarters, here in Jos.

“The meeting was convened as part of the commissionerโ€™s proactive and strategic efforts to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebration throughout the State, especially in the following Local Government Areas; Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos and Mangu respectively.”

He said, โ€œThe Plateau State Commissioner of Police has put in place effective security arrangements and made all necessary deployments to all the seventeen (17) local government areas to ensure that there are no threats to the peace currently being enjoyed in the state.

โ€œAfter due consultation with his management team and critical stakeholders within the state, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police during a stakeholders meeting today has placed restrictions on the following activities from 23rd December 2024 to 3rd January 2025 in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas: night grazing by herders, night farming by farmers, late night operation of beer parlours, night mining activities and operation of commercial motorcycles (Okada).

โ€œThe CP also wishes to announce to the general public that there will be a ban on the activities of commercial tricycles also known as โ€œKeke NAPEPโ€ within the Jos Bukuru metropolis from 25th to 26th December 2024 and on the 1st of January, 2025. He also wishes to reiterate that the total ban on the activities of commercial motorcycles remains in force.โ€

Alfred noted that all the restrictions are to be in force between the hours of 6 pm to 6 am daily.

Meanwhile, the command had made massive deployments to major flashpoints within the state, and is also working in synergy with the military, other security agencies within the state and members of security help groups to ensure that the security of the State and Borders is guaranteed throughout the festive period.

The Commissioner of Police, however, called on the good people of Plateau State to cooperate with the Police and other Security Agencies in ensuring that these restrictions are obeyed, for the good of all.

โ€œThe command regrets any inconveniences that these restrictions may cause on any person or group of persons.

โ€œWe want you to note that all of our policies are for the peace and security of all Plateau residents, and not meant to intimidate or inconvenience anyoneโ€, Alfred added.
