Amid Hardship Tinubu Presidency Spends N14b On Renovation Of Presidential Quarters
A review of public payments by the Nigerian government has shown that the Bola Tinubu-led Presidency spent the sum of N14 billion on renovation of Presidential quarters, Presidential honorarium, trips and purchase of foreign exchange between May and July, 2024.
The review shows that on 19th of July, the Presidency spent N150 million to pay for Presidential trips and other related expenses.
On July 17 alone, N1.6 billion was recorded paid for purchase of foreign exchange.
On 15 July, Presidential honorarium took N61.1million, while purchase of Forex was put at N38.9 million on 13th of July, Presidential honorarium gulped N90.4 million on same day. This is even as Presidential trips stood at N350million.
Renovation, acquisition, rehabilitation of forfeited quarters as State House at Guzape cost N1.354billion on 31st of May, while Renovation, acquisition, rehabilitation of forfeited quarters as state house house at Mabushi stood at N773million on same day.
Another sum of N1.877 billion was used for renovation of the quarters of Mr President.
On the same day N3.5 billion was spent to construct Office complex within the state house while N2.827 billion was used for renovation of the Vice President’s official quarters.
On 29th of May, the sum of N350 million was spent for Presidential trips and other related expenses while N400 million was paid for honorarium.
On the 17th day of May, the Presidency spent N177.2 million on Presidential honorarium and N169 million on purchase of forex while trips gulped N271.5 million
There have been scrutiny around the spendings of the Nigerian Presidency especially given complaints around paucity of funds in Nigeria and germane fiscal needs of the country.
These spendings also come at a time when the government expresses commitment to prudence and management of scarce resources.
