United Against Terror: Nigerian Army And Taraba State Renew Security Alliance

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has declared an unbreakable alliance between the Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government as part of a renewed, all-out offensive against terrorism and other security threats.
Lieutenant General Shaibu made this declaration on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, while receiving the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Colonel Agbu Kefas (rtd), alongside federal lawmakers and members of the Executive Council of the International Institute for African Ispense Security and Governance during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its constitutional role of supporting civil authorities in the maintenance of peace and security. He described Taraba State as strategically important within Nigeria’s security architecture due to its terrain and prevailing security dynamics.
Commending Governor Kefas for his decisive leadership and effective coordination with security agencies, Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that the state government’s support—particularly the donation of land and provision of operational equipment—has served as a critical force multiplier, significantly enhancing the scope and effectiveness of military operations in the state.
He emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through strong civil-military collaboration and appealed for sustained partnership. Specifically, the COAS requested support in providing stable electricity to the 20 Model Battalion, Sarti, and 23 Battalion, noting that improved power supply would enhance operational efficiency, combat readiness and troop welfare.
The COAS also called for increased public sensitisation across Taraba State, urging residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible intelligence. According to him, community cooperation remains a decisive factor in defeating terrorists and other criminal elements.
In his response, Governor Kefas described the visit as a demonstration of Taraba State’s unwavering solidarity with the Nigerian Army. He congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment as Chief of Army Staff and praised the professionalism, resilience and sacrifices of Nigerian Army personnel, noting that their sustained operations have led to visible improvements in the state’s security situation.
The Governor further applauded the strong inter-agency collaboration among security agencies in the state, identified areas requiring reinforced military presence, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continued support for the Nigerian Army, including assistance with accommodation for deployed troops.
Both parties reaffirmed their resolve to maintain a united and unwavering front in the fight against terrorism and insecurity.
