Renewed Hope Agenda: FG Moves to Complete ₦75.47bn Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua Road by May 2026

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the timely completion of critical road infrastructure in Yobe State, assuring residents that the ₦75.47 billion Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua Road will be delivered as scheduled under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The assurance was given during a national media tour of federal roads and the commissioning of emergency and special intervention projects in the state, held on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Leading the inspection was the Federal Controller of Works (FCW) in Yobe State, Engr. Nasir Dauda, alongside officials of the Federal Ministry of Works, representatives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Damaturu Branch, contractors, community leaders, and members of the media.
At the rehabilitation site of Section I of the Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua Road, Engr. Dauda disclosed that the 79.4-kilometre project was awarded in 2024 to Messrs JRB Construction Limited and is expected to be completed by May 14, 2026. He explained that construction is being executed using Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), with work commencing from Chainage 49, identified as the most critical section due to severe erosion and flooding.
Project Manager, Engr. Kabir Fatai, confirmed that more than 1.5 kilometres of rigid pavement have already been completed, noting that vulnerable sections are being prioritised ahead of the rainy season. The Chairman of the NSE, Damaturu Branch, Engr. Mustapha Abdullahi, described the choice of rigid pavement as appropriate, adding that integrity tests confirmed a pavement thickness of 200 millimetres. He stated that the project will enhance economic activities, reduce road accidents, and significantly cut travel time.
The inspection team also commissioned a 490-metre emergency access road at the College of Administration, Management and Technology (CAMTECH), Potiskum. Engr. Dauda said the project was completed within three months to ease movement for staff and students, reflecting the Federal Government’s concern for student welfare. The Rector of the institution, Mallam Ibrahim Bomai Zarma, expressed appreciation, describing the road as well-constructed and appealing for further interventions.
Additionally, two other projects—the CABS/Graveyard Road and the limited rehabilitation of Hayin Gada Road—were commissioned in Potiskum town. The roads are part of the Federal Government’s 260 Emergency and Special Intervention projects nationwide, aimed at restoring access, improving safety, and easing movement within communities.
The projects were commissioned on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE, by the Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Council, Mr. Usman Mohammed, who commended the Federal Government for its timely and impactful interventions.
The team also commissioned the 8.8-kilometre Damagum–Gubana Road, contracted to Messrs Petropan Energy Limited at the cost of ₦1.49 billion and completed within one year. Engr. Dauda noted that the road links several agrarian communities, significantly improving the transportation of farm produce. The Yerima of Fune and District Head of Damagum, Alhaji Idris Mai Saleh, thanked the Federal Government, noting the project’s positive impact on livelihoods and local commerce.
Another project inspected was the 54.5-kilometre Kaleyeri–Damaturu Road, a federal highway awarded in 2019 to Messrs Ric Rock Construction Limited. Engr. Dauda confirmed that the contractor has fully returned to site, while the Project Engineer, Engr. Ayodele Ajibogi, disclosed that earthworks are ongoing in two sections, with three kilometres of binder course already completed. He assured that the project would be delivered as scheduled.
