…Unveils Bursary Plans for Students, Receives Unanimous Endorsement
The Member representing Itu-Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon has called for unity, peace, and stronger collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas.
The lawmaker made this call on Friday, March 14, 2025 during a meeting with members of the Itu and Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, Special Advisers, and Supervisors from both LGAs, held at the Federal Constituency office, Itu LGA.
In his address, Barr. Ime Okon congratulated the councillors on their electoral victories and the supervisors on their appointments, noting that this was his first formal engagement with them since their assumption of office.
He emphasised the need for a harmonious working relationship between the councillors, supervisors, and their respective Chairmen to foster peace and accelerate developmental projects across the federal constituency.
“Unity and collaboration are the bedrock of any meaningful progress. I encourage you to work hand in hand with your local government leadership, as this will not only promote peace but also accelerate the development we all desire,” he stated.
He also urged them to remain loyal and continue supporting the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, and his ARISE Agenda while reinforcing their commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The federal lawmaker revealed plans to pay bursaries to Itu and Ibiono Ibom students in tertiary institutions across the country in the coming weeks. This, he said, is part of his ongoing efforts to support education and ease the financial burden on students and their families.
“Education remains a powerful tool for transformation. In the coming weeks, we will roll out bursaries to support our students and ease the financial burden on their families,” he assured.
Barr. Ime Okon further reassured them of his open-door policy, pledging to always be available to assist them in addressing any challenges they might face.
Responding on behalf of the councillors, the leadership of the Itu and Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Idorenyin Umoren (Ibiono Ibom), and Hon. Godswill David (Itu), expressed deep appreciation to the lawmaker for his continued support and fatherly leadership. They commended his numerous people-oriented projects, including road construction, educational grants, the provision of solar-powered streetlights, classroom blocks, water projects, and the recently concluded free medical outreach, which they described as unprecedented.
They also lauded him for his recent car gifts, where he presented four vehicles in the first batch, with two given to councillors, describing the gesture as a testament to his commitment to rewarding loyalty and service.
Similarly, the Deans of Special Advisers and Supervisors from Itu and Ibiono Ibom LGAs, Comrade Emmanuel Abel and Comrade Etima Asuquo Akpan, praised the federal lawmaker for his excellent representation over the past 20 months, highlighting his dedication to improving the lives of the people through impactful programmes and initiatives.
Present at the meeting was the president of National Association of Technologists in Engineering, Rt. Hon. Dominic Udotan, who was a former Vice Chairman, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, and currently the Secretary of Ibiono Ibom Unity Project Advisory Committee.
The meeting reached a high point when the councillors, special advisers, and supervisors unanimously endorsed Rt. Hon. Ime Bassey Okon, pledging their unflinching support for his aspirations and programmes beyond 2027.
